Republicans can gain Edge in Senate

The Wall Street Journal notes that although the Democrats hold the majority of the United States Senate, Republican occasionally could prevail.

Key reason: between 23 Democrats facing re-election in 2012 are a handful of historians from type of moderate conservative States where Democrats took a beating last week: Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Jon Tester of Montana, Jim Webb of Virginia, Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

2) journalists must pay to enter and so the prizes are not as valuable as the newspaper marketing spending.

I don't know if I am not at all, but you never know. The British press, I suppose, stranger things have happened.

Michael Jackson: This Is It

It's hard not to watch This Is It without feeling a mixture of sorrow and elation. When he passed away in the summer of 2009, Michael Jackson was in the midst of rehearsals for his final tour, an ambitious 50-date engagement. In editing 120 hours of rehearsal footage together, Jackson producer Kenny Ortega proves that it would've been an event for the ages. Michael performs material that spans his career, from a Motown medley to multi-platinum hits from Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Though he hadn't toured in 10 years, it becomes instantly apparent, despite rumors to the contrary, that Jackson was still in full possession of that unmistakable voice--high-pitched whoops and all--and that he still had the gravity-defying moves of a man half his age. Jackson and Ortega also collaborated on some real showstoppers, such as a graveyard-set "Thriller"; an imposing "They Don't Care About Us," in which several dancers appear to morph into thousands; and a film noir sequence in which the singer slides in and out of Gilda and other black-and-white classics, singing "Smooth Criminal" all the while. Not everything works, like the Jackson 5 numbers, in which he flubs a few lyrics, claiming that his earpiece isn't working properly, but as he readily acknowledges, "That's what rehearsal is for." It's a tragedy that he didn't get the chance to share this dazzling show with the world, but Ortega allows fans to feel as if it actually happened--at least onscreen. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

My Cousin Vinny [VHS]

My Cousin Vinny [VHS]When two Italian-American boys from New York are falsely accused of murder in a small Alabama town, they call for a lawyer--but the only lawyer they know is their cousin Vinny (Joe Pesci), who made six attempts before he passed his bar exam. My Cousin Vinny is a classic fish-out-of-water comedy; the flimsy plot about clearing the two boys and solving the murder is just a hook to support a lot of culture-clash humor. Thanks to the strong cast of character actors like Fred Gwynne, Austin Pendleton, and Lane Smith, it's pretty funny--even old-hat jokes about Brooklyn versus Southern accents come to life. Pesci has played a few too many schticky characters, but this time it works. There's just enough humanity in his caricature to make Vinny likable and entertaining. When the movie was released, there was controversy about whether Marisa Tomei, playing Vinny's big-haired and black-leather-wearing fiancée, deserved to win the best supporting actress Oscar (she beat out Judy Davis, Joan Plowright, Miranda Richardson, and Vanessa Redgrave); but seeing her performance on its own, it's a comic marvel and worthy of honor. --Bret Fetzer

Bureaucrats and Blackmailers

Christmas that I happened to catch the Orson Welles Sketchbook transmitted from 26 December to Forrest. Welles may have been talking about decades ago, but her message could not be more pertitent today. He disccuses State surveillance, police powers and blackmail bureaucrats.

You can watch here: http://bbc.co.uk/i/plbtd/

Welles stories refers in General by his travels around the globe who occupy of border police and the bureaucracy. he want day her father when people had freedom of movement as opposed to, "today [when] we are treated as children dementia or arrears". What on Earth he make of modern Britain, place the most watched on the planet?

He says he's stopped at the border of a European country nameless by policemen typically officious and bullying. He has endeavoured to tell us that this is not an anarchist or against the police. can play a joke practical on police, but he did not advocate to break the law. Rather, he wants to bring the policeman to law.

The best pieces begin to 9 minutes where he explores the dangers of ' insidious ' red tapism.
"Think about all those forms that you fill out. Why should I have confide my religion to the police? The race is of someone nobody business ".

Yes the policeman has a difficult work very hard, he says, but "is the essence of our society that work of policemans should be difficult. He is their protected the citzien free. Chasing criminals is incidental part of his work. The free citizen is increasingly a nuisance for the COP more criminals. he knows what to do about the criminal. "

"We must be thankful for the COP. But we must be thankful, too, for the laws that protect us against the policeman. There are those laws and they are very different from police regulations. And these regulations accumulate. Forms continue to come. "

"The bureaucrat and I'm also here the policeman, is part of a great big monstrous thing – really like a blackmailer. You cannot pay him ever.More give him more he asks."

We accept each new question, because we don't want in trouble with the police is easier just by hand on any new piece of our personal life, such authorities require to accept even more surveillance, forms, more databases; to give police more powers of arrest.

Why should we make trouble? would be a matter of better in a democracy, as says Welles, "why should the policeman making trouble for us?"
